Since 1999, Magasin offers from its location in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg selected and lovingly restored, high-quality furniture from the second half of the twentieth century. With an emphasis on designs from Germany and Scandinavia, we only offer original pieces that meet our standards for beauty, functionality and timelessness. In particular, we treasure German furniture from the 1950s and 60s—timeless styles by designers like Herbert Hirche, Georg Leowald, Hartmut Lohmeyer, Franz Ehrlich or Selman Selmanagić but also select pieces by smaller furniture manufacturers and lesser-known, family-run businesses.
Tattered fabric, ripped upholstery, open glue seams or scratched surfaces—since the condition of a furniture piece often also bears witness to its eventful and lively history, we specialize in professional furniture restoration. We handle most of this in our own workshop and, when needed, we partner with experienced upholsterers and restorers.
The re-cushioning and upholstering of seating furniture takes place in our own workshop. Here we use long-lasting cold cure foam and upholster items with high-quality fabrics from family-run businesses located in a traditional southern german textile region. We carefully handpick patterns to match the original styles of the 1950s and 60s.
To ensure the durability and stability of furniture for added decades of use, we employ expert restoration techniques: loosened connections are carefully undone, cleaned and then re-glued.
Surface veneers are carefully sanded and then resealed. Here we use only high-quality, organic-based lacquers.
